  2. Avoid add-ons such as cheeses or extra sauces. Keep your plate simple and as colorful as possible, which translates to more fruits and vegetables.
  3. Prepackage your snacks. When you are in one location for a day or night, take a minute to pack up some snacks. Use your own bags or containers and buy the items in larger quantities and portion them out for the day and week. Anytime a snack is prepackaged by a company, there are additives and chemicals added to maintain freshness which you can minimize by packing snacks on your own.
  4. Travel with snacks that are organic, low in salt, and low in sugar. The best options are foods like nuts, raisins, vegetable chips, and fruit. If you have the opportunity to bake or cook ahead, consider making healthy muffins, cookies, and even granola bars. When you control the ingredients, you can substitute healthier options to create a more ideal snack.
  5. Visit a grocery store deli department to find salads, sandwiches, and other healthier options. Some stores have salad bars and options for meals that are freshly prepared and are a smart “fast food” alternative. Many come in leak-proof containers so they can be eaten at a later time in the day.
  6. Invest in a cooler. Either a small hard-shell cooler or soft one that can travel with you to hold food and drinks. Your energy levels will decrease without the right amounts of protein and hydration and your work will suffer. Always have water and non-sugared drinks in your bag or vehicle.
